Vampires do not only exist, but everyone knows about them. Since the invention of a Japanese scientist of synthetic blood, vampires have evolved from legendary monsters to citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain concerned about vampires who live among them in Louisiana.

In the southern town of Bon Temps, a local waitress named Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) understands what being an outcast. The Curse of the ability to hear people's thoughts, she is also an open mind about the integration of vampires.

She is especially intrigued by Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a handsome 173 years of life on the road. But as Sookie is introduced in a series of mysteries surrounding Bill's arrival in Bon Temps, that tolerance will be tested. Other residents are city's best friend Sookie, Tara (Rutina Wesley), his bumbling brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten) and his shape-shifting boss Sam (Sam Trammell).
